Beautiful Bins.....The Ottoman That Changed My Life

I have an 18 month old. Anyone who is blessed with a child knows that they bring a lot of joy, a lot of change, and a lot of stuff! 

When I was preparing for my baby girl to enter my life, I was planning on being the PERFECT MOM. I decorated my baby girl's Princess Tiana nursery, set it up with all matching nursery furniture which included a rocking chair & changing table. I was planning on changing her everyday on that changing table..... HA! 

My baby girl arrived and life kicked in! After the 1st week, I realized there was no way I was going to walk upstairs to change her or get her supplies. I needed something in my living room that would serve as decor & storage. So what did I do? I purchased the ottoman that changed my life....lol. 

A crocodile ottoman from Wal-Mart for about $20.00 (don't sleep on Wal-Mart) that blends well with my decor and is perfect storage. What do I store in this ottoman? My daughter's diapers, wipes, lotions, creams, shoes...etc. It's BEAUTIFUL!

Beautiful Bins....The Shoe Bin

In the second edition of Beautiful Bins, one of my favorite & one of the most used bins in my home...The Shoe Bin. 

Every family has that one area in their home where they unwind & relax. That one spot that gives you peace. My family's spot is our living room. It's where our daughter has play time, where we watch TV, where we grab our computers and answer email, and where we talk about our day.

As I mentioned before, my husband and I live in a two story home and taking time from our comfortable spot to walk upstairs and put away shoes is way too much (I'm secretly lazy...lol). 

So how does it work? 

I picked up this wicker basket from Wal-Mart for $17.99. We enter our home, take off our shoes and put them in the wicker basket. At the end of the week, the collection of shoes in the basket find their way back into our individual closets. 

Well placed shoe bin = More time in my favorite spot

Beautiful Bins - The Toy Bin

This week is dedicated to the bins in my living room that have helped my family stay organized & kept me sane. I call them my beautiful bins and today's beautiful bin is my daughter's toy bin.

My daughter enjoys her toys and when it's play time she takes joy in taking out every toy she has and spreading them across my living room floor (she's 18 months). After playtime,  I noticed the amount of time I was spending putting her toys away in her room (which is on the 2nd floor of my home). I realized that it didn't make sense to keep walking up & down the steps when she was going to take them out again tomorrow!

I was looking through my Real Simple magazine and I read how you can use bins to organize almost any area of my home and I had an "ah ha" moment...."Why not get a toy bin!?"

The bin that saved the day......

A wicker bin that I purchased from World Market for $35.00. It sits in the corner of my living room blending in perfectly with my décor & its perfect for small toy storage. Keeps us clean & organized.

Best $35.00 I ever spent.

My Stylishly Organized Hobby...

So, if you know me or have followed me on instagram or facebook for longer than 5 minutes you know that I love to do what I now call stylishly organize. I love developing systems for my home and my life that will make things a little easier and I love to make it look stylish in the process. This love brought me to the thought, Why not make your hobby a business?! You love to do it anyway, right?

A couple months after my business developed I had abandoned my organizing youtube channel, no time to organize myself, and more clients than I could handle! It was a mess! I realized that I had to find a new way to continue to stylishly organize and share my hobby with the world.

Hi, I'm Alaina and I'm an organizational junkie.

However, I'm also a wife, a mother, and an entrepreneur (check out www.baggageb.com). I'm involved in my church (www.thecityoflove.com) and I'm involved in my community.  Most of the time I feel like I'm being pulled in 12 different directions (usually because I am) and I used to be  very hard on myself for losing my keys, forgetting a birthday and, in my personal opinion, not spending enough time with my daughter. In my teen years, I had always been so organized and efficient (it's passed down from my mother), however, I felt like I was losing it in my adult life. 

I realized I needed a heightened level of organizational skills to accompany my super busy life. So, I started to research, read books, look up youtube videos, & subscribe to magazines. I indulged in browsing the organizational aisles of Office Max, Home Depot, & Wal-Mart. I begin implementing subtle shifts in the way I organized my home & my family. And I realized.....I don't just like to be organized, I love the entire process of organization! 

Organizing is my passion. It relaxes me and gives me a sense of peace. I thought its absolutely necessary to extend to everyone the serenity & success found in maintaining an orderly life. Be inspired.
